![]() Alexandra Kent has been drawing and painting all her life, with people and animals as her favorite themes. She received her formal education at Wellesley College, where she received a degree in Art History followed by a fine arts degree in Illustration from the Art Institute of Boston. As a freelance artist and illustrator her work has varied widely, from children's book illustration, wildlife drawings, greeting cards, record/CD covers, to children’s' portraits, murals in private homes or commercial spaces, landscape paintings. Most of her painting is done with acrylic paints, though using an underpainting and layered technique traditionally used by the old masters, with oils. Since moving to southern Rhode Island in 1993, where she spent all the summers of her life, Ms. Kent has become known for her depictions of children at the beach, and the green and wild landscapes of the New England Coast. Even with many of her paintings hanging in galleries or fine art shows, she describes herself primarily as an illustrator; because whether depicting a rooster in a local farmyard, or creating a wildlife garden in a child's room, she takes a story-telling approach to every painting.
